Watch: A Quiet Morning on Lake Bled
Slovenia's island church and the Julian Alps, filmed from the shore before the crowds arrive.
Lake Bled sits at the foot of the Julian Alps in northwest Slovenia. The small island at its centre holds the Church of the Assumption, reached only by traditional wooden boats called pletna.
Visit early: by mid-morning in summer the shoreline path fills with visitors. The full loop around the lake is about six kilometres and takes most walkers under two hours.
